Note: These newspaper strips from 1981 to 1984 were initially reprinted in an a limited, oversized three-volume slipcase edition by Russ Cochran, simply titled Star Wars: Volume 1-3. Utilizing the talents of illustrator, Al Williamson, Dark Horse reformatted the newspaper strips to make it workable as a comic book. They also gave them color and utilized some of the Sunday strips (which Cochran did not.) The stellar results of their efforts was this 20 issue series and was subsequently collected in three trade paperbacks called Classic Star Wars (also Volumes 1-3 but these were at least titled.) Along with three years worth of work on the Marvel Star Wars series, these comics are among the best work of the late Archie Goodwin, creator of some of the most memorable stories in the Star Wars Universe. They are now available unformatted online at Star Wars Hyperspace. As with the Cochran volumes (see below), the webstrips do not utilize the Sunday strips.
